Who we are and what we do

A brief history...

West Charlton Residents Association (WCRA) started after conversations among neighbours at local street parties and playing out streets.It grew from a desire to bring residents together to look after our local community and a concern that decisions were being made by those with no local knowledge that would have serious consequences for the area.

WCRA was set up in January 2024, with public meetings held at the United Reform Church hall on Bramshot Avenue about the recently introduced controlled parking zone and the proposed West and East Greeenwich low traffic neighbourhoods (LTNs): in both cases residents felt they hadn't been properly consulted and there was a desire to share information and give a voice to the area. Many members joined the residents' association after signing up to WCRA's petition requesting a rethink on the LTNS with monitoring and consultation for Charlton as a minimum.

Over time WCRA has tried to widen what it does to include a range of activities including litter picks, local election hustings, and a local history talk. We always welcome those with new ideas to get in touch and join or work with our committee and look forward to hearing from you!

  • Support opting out of glyphosate spraying on weed in local streets
  • Follow up on mitigations for the increased LTN traffic
  • Press for progress on the pedestrian subway improvement project including fixing the lighting
  • Encourage planting and looking after trees on local streets and beside the A102
  • Look at potential projects to bid for Neighbourhood Growth Funds
  • Support Wilder Greenwich planting hedging and bulbs on the Westcombe Park side of the pedestrian subway
  • Raise issues relating to the car pound, such as 24hr noise of the trucks
